We got a couple of blues/rock guitar players at the Unplugged concert series last night. The headliner was Gary Clark, Jr. Many folks around here believe he is the best guitar player to come out of Austin since Stevie Ray. I don't think I'd argue that point. He's also got a really nice voice. It was fun sitting close, watching him play up and down that fret. He's probably better known for his current role in the John Sayles movie, "Honeydripper." They needed a young, black guitar slinger and he was perfect for that part.
Opening for Gary was Eve And The Exiles. I was not familiar with them, but earlier in the day KGSR played a couple of her songs and they sounded good. Rockin' in a bluesy kind of way. Eve Monsees, who fronts the band, can really play. They did a fun mix of songs during their set. You can tell she is from the Bo Diddley school of rock.
